Dear sisters and brothers in Christ
It is with great regret that I inform you that Rev. Msgr. Willis W. West, former pastor of Saint Joseph parish and a retired priest of the Diocese of Norwich, died today, Friday, February 21, 2014, just before noon at Saint Joseph Living Center, Windham, Connecticut.
While we had hoped for a longer time to express our affection and gratitude to him in his illness we can be grateful for him that his departure from this life was so effortless and peaceful. Our sympathy goes out to his brothers, Richard and Robert and their families as well as to Father Eugene Carr, a retired priest of the Diocese of Scranton and classmate and dear friend of Monsignor West.
The Reception at the Church will take place on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. Following that ceremony, Msgr. West’s body will lie in state until 5:00 p.m. at Saint Joseph Church. A Parish Mass will be celebrated for his repose on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. in Saint Joseph Church.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 24, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Joseph Church, by the Most Reverend Michael R. Cote, Bishop of Norwich. A luncheon reception will take place immediately after the funeral Mass in the Saint Joseph Hall. Burial will follow the reception in Saint Bernard Cemetery, Rockville, Connecticut.
The Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect Street, Willimantic, Connecticut, 06226, telephone number 860-423-1234, is in charge of arrangements.
I know we will all be thinking of Monsignor and praying for him and for all those who are mourning him.
Devotedly yours in Christ,
